Mixtape Memories

Because a mixtape is for sharing.

Blink 182 Pose For A Portrait In Los AngelesI could never have known that in later years blink-182 would become borderline embarrassing with the music they’d be making. But back in 1998/99, this trio of idiots were about to guide me onto a path that would alter the rest of my musical life.

It was the release of ‘Dammit’, taken from the incredible album Dude Ranch that made me want to learn to play the guitar. That intro riff, the chucka-chucks of palm mutes, and those simple melodies all struck a chord within my teenage bones and sent me out to the shops with all of my birthday money to purchase my first six-string.

Since then I haven’t stopped playing. I’ve been in many different bands, played overseas and even spent some time in Abbey Road adding the finishing touches to a vinyl that my latest band released two years ago. I’d like to say it was the first song I learn’t to play, but I’m afraid it wasn’t. That was the James Bond Theme instead. Ladies & Gentlemen, track two.

  1. Yes!!! Dammit was my intro to Blink & although I’m disappointed that they’ve turned to shit (and I’ve subsequently outgrown them), that song will for ever be awesome.

On another note, I think you should find some awesome riot grrl rock. Like, Kathleen Hannah type sh!t. Seriously. I know you have it in you, and I believe in you.
